MYOFASCIAL CUPPING
What is it?

The treatment starts the same with warming up techniques and soft tissue release. If an area is identified as being particularly restricted due to scar tissue, overuse or inactivity, then cups can be added. These are small plastic cups, placed onto the tissue using a suction tool. The cups cause the soft tissue to be suctioned up inside them. This causes a movement of fluid and toxins within the tissue. It causes the tissue to detoxify (removing stagnant toxins from the muscles), stimulates the tissue and encourages the breakdown of scar tissue and helps to increase the muscles range of movement.

The cups can be left on specific trigger points, or be moved once placed on your body. This allows for fresh oxygen and nutrient rich blood to flood the affected area and encourage renewal.

Movement of the muscles is encouraged whilst the cups are in place. This allows for movement to be restored to the restricted area and to help break down any knots / adhesions.

You do not have to book a specific cupping treatment. They will be used alongside your normal sports massage treatment, if you would like them.
What to expect following your treatment

The cups can leave suction marks. These are NOT bruises. They are areas where the blood has been brought to the skin to encourage healing. Some people may mark more than others, some areas may mark more than others. More restricted areas normally show up darker. They are not painful and will fade in a few days.
Like any treatment, you may feel tender the following day. By drinking plenty of water this will help your body flush the toxins out of your system and restore the natural balance. Feeling a bit achy or tender is perfectly normal and will ease in the coming days.
